Amanda Grieme November
16th 2011 Amanda Grieme currently resides in Washington, New Jersey where I teach Literature and Creative Writing at Warren Hills Regional High School. Like my protagonist, I have struggled with Bipolar Disorder the majority of my adolescent and adult life; it is imperative that I share the message of hope with those who falter. Fiction writing is my instrument to help. Three of my former students, all of whom graduate from W.H.R.H.S this June, 2010 were special artistic contributors to "Dear Prudence." Amanda Kunzman illustrated the novel, while Mishelle Wilson and Jean Melancon were also integral parts of the creative process. "Dear Prudence" was a cathartic endeavor to work through my own illness, and slowly evolved into a work of fiction, loosely based on my own experience with Bipolar/Schizoaffective Disorder. It captures the unraveling of an escaped mental patient with a backpack full of unsent letters and a death wish ...who discovers something worth living for - Ana Guida is an eccentric psycho-med guinea pig masked behind a guise of beauty and eloquence, plagued by confusion due to her bipolar/schizo-affective disorder. With her secrets recorded in unsent letters stored in her coveted backpack, she feels that the only way to let her loved ones live life to the fullest is to take herself out of the equation. As she makes her escape from a Rhode Island State Hospital and begins her journey toward the crystal blue waters of the Florida Keys and her romantic demise, Ana is unaware that there are other forces at work. An angelic guide, assigned by the universal weaver to Ana, hovers just an inch above her reality, helping or hindering her as she goes, depending on what is needed. And one inch above our reality, Ana examines her life, trying to discover whether it is just a stubborn knot in Mother Fate’s tapestry ... or something more. "Dear Prudence" is an eloquent account of one woman’s path through mental illness and self-doubt to discover her significance in this world. http://www.eloquentbooks.com/dearprudence.html http://www.pendulumprego.blogspot.com http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dearprudence/dearprudence-peekintoanassecretworld.blogspot.com |

November
2nd 2011 Arno Michaels Biography From the time I was 17 until I was 24, I was deeply involved in the white power movement. I was a founding member of what went on to become the largest racist skinhead organization on Earth, a Reverend of a self-declared Racial Holy War, and lead singer of the race-metal band Centurion, selling over 20,000 CDs of the most violent, hateful music ever made around the world. There is blood from innocent people on my hands. There are kids today who listen to my voice bellowing my lyrics as they're getting drunk and geared-up to go out and hurt people. After 7 years of involvement, the combination of single parenthood and higher education finally instilled doubt in the racist dogma that I had vehemently promoted for so long. The process of change is ongoing. My evolution of thought occurred over the course of years, but there was a particular afternoon that marked my epiphany: I arrived early to pick my daughter up from daycare. No one had noticed me, so I took in the moment, watching with teared eyes as my little girl played with the other kids. It struck me that they were all children; not black children, or white children, but the sons and daughters of mothers and fathers. I thought of all the people I had hurt, whether with my own hands or by lighting some psychopath's fuse. Those people had moms and dads and brothers and sisters. How did their loved ones feel when they saw this person who was so special to them battered and broken? How horrible would it be to have my daughter exposed to such violence in the slightest aspect? Love for my child thawed a dormant empathy for people that I was never aware of. I have changed drastically over the years since then, becoming a person who seeks out and embraces the diversity of our wonderful human family. A person who ultimately realized that the basic human need for compassion can't be bound by constructs such as race. I didn't become this person with the intention of simply being the antithesis of what I was. It happened very organically once I became too exhausted to maintain the lies necessary to be a racist. In November of 2010 I published My Life After Hate, a book reflecting upon my past and the things I have learned. Today I work with an amazing group of friends to publish Life After Hate, a monthly online magazine dedicated to basic human goodness, which is the innate and natural desire to live an open and honest life while treating all other life with compassion and respect. This core truth serves as the foundation for peace as it’s common to every world religion and transcending of ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, and any other sort of difference that seems to sort human beings. Inspired by Life After Hate, a character development movement called Kindness Not Weakness addresses bullying and other destructive behavior by demonstrating the honor of peace. I have joined fellow Peace Educators Frank Meeink, and Sammy and Denise Rangel, to present a storytelling-based program to schools and other organizations. Participants of all ages strive to set an example by taking personal responsibility for the impact of their decisions on self, others, community, society, and Earth. Most recently, Life After Hate has become part of the Against Violent Extremism, a global collaborative effort to combat violent extremism with the practice of peace. October 26th 2011 Bill Conry is an 81 year old geezer who writes a weekly newspaper column and lives in a 115-year- old house in Canon City, Colorado. His lovely wife just happens to be a great professional artist with a studio in the back yard. She speaks several languages and drives their Lincoln Town car way too fast. It annoys Bill that she eats doughnuts during church services. But he loves her with a grand passion nevertheless. He also loves their three spoiled dogs, Jake, Buddy and Tiger, and they go for a hike everyday in the mountains. Cutie Pie, their very old, mean cat, does not like Bill so much but loves his wife. In the 1930's Bill Conry's mother was a newspaper reporter and wrote many short stories for the popular magazines of that time. She also wrote a book titled "Diapers for Three," by Elsie Conry. It was about living on a ranch in the dry dust bowl of Kit Carson, Colorado while raising three babies: Bill, Lloyd and Margie Conry. Life was hard because rain was just a myth and crops did not grow. There were dust storms, rattlesnakes and coyotes but no electricity and water came from a nearly dry well about one mile away. But her book was published and young Bill Conry became very impressed and was inspired to also become a writer. Writing is hard work and Bill Conry, as a teenager, began his hobby of collecting rejection slips from various publications. But in 1948 he entered an essay contest and won the grand prize of $10.00. Thus he launched his career as a professional writer. He enrolled in a college journalism class and wrote a column in the college newspaper called "According to the Books." During the Korean War the draft board was breathing down his neck so he quit college and joined the U. S. Air Force. Since he was an excellent typist his entire military service involved working in an office typing secret documents. Once again as a civilian he served three years as a reserve deputy sheriff in Arizona. After that he traveled to Israel, Jordan and Africa. Writing is hard work and getting published is even harder. He wrote a novel, "The Ringing of the Bells" but it did not publish. Then he wrote "Farewell to America" and it did fairly well. But he felt it could be a better book, therefore he rewrote it as a second edition of "Farewell to America" and it is good. Now he is nearly finished with his third book and it is called "The Rants and Ravings of an Old Geezer."

Arno Niemand Remarkable Story of Cornell College Wrestling Dream Team of 1947 Chronicled in Book How a Small College Upset All Major Competitors to Win NCAA Wrestling
BOULDER, CO –
Arno Niemand, longtime wrestling
proponent, historian and member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame,
has written and published, “The
Dream Team of 1947,” a new book chronicling the extraordinary
story of the
1947 wrestling team of Cornell College
in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The book
tells the true story of a dedicated and talented coach named Paul Scott,
a nurturing small college and town, three young superstars fresh out of
high school, and five service veterans who all bonded as a team to
defeat all comers. The team won the “grand slam” of
amateur wrestling, becoming the only
school outside the state of Oklahoma to win the
NCAA team championship, something no
other private school before or since has accomplished. The Great
Depression, World War II, the GI Bill, struggles with scholastic
achievement and a serious car crash all affect the team’s future in this
real-life drama. “Every once in a while, something happens in the world
of sports that reminds us all why we care, and this story continues to
inspire all who have heard it,” commented Niemand. “It’s the story of
the greatest team you’ve never heard of. They were so special that they
are the only team to be honored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame,
which typically awards individuals, and not many of them!”
“The book is the story of, perhaps, the
greatest David tops Goliath performance in the history of
intercollegiate sports,” commented Jim Brown, Cedar Rapids, IA. “It’s
also a story of the role played by American history in this feat. The
book gripped me and I read it in a single sitting. I highly recommend
it.” “This wrestling history is
so enjoyable that I wonder why it took so long to be written,” commented
Dan Gable, NCAA, World and Olympic champion, and legendary former coach
of the Iowa Hawkeyes. “Thanks for giving us another reason to love the
sport.” More details can be found
at
http://dreamteam47.com. The book is
available at
Amazon.com and select book stores.
Mr. Niemand is a 1956 graduate of
Cornell University, where he was on the wrestling team. He was later
inducted into the Cornell Hall of Distinguished Wrestling Alumni. He
went on to earn his MBA in 1958 from the Darden School of Business,
University of Virginia. Throughout his life, Mr. Niemand has continued
to support the sport of wrestling, and in 2008 received the FILA Gold
Star, which is the highest award given to an individual by the world
governing body of wrestling. In 2009, he was inducted into the National
Wrestling Hall of Fame, earning the
Order of Merit. As previous owner and chairman of Body Bar Inc.,
Niemand has sponsored the
USA Wrestling Women's National Team
since 2003.

September 7th 2011 Paul
Kendel
Walking the Tiger’s Path: A Soldier’s Spiritual Journey in Iraq puts you on the ground with National Guardsman Paul M. Kendel as he faces roadside bombs, ambush, and potential suicide bombers while patrolling the “Triangle of Death” outside Baghdad in 2005. Already familiar with the Middle East through travel and study, he’s acutely aware of the local people and culture around him—in a way that many American soldiers are not. As his friends start dying and the other soldiers grow embittered toward the Iraqis, he struggles to maintain his humanity and sense of compassion with his finger on the trigger. Impulsively sending an email to the Shambhala Buddhist community, he makes a connection with an instructor, Margot Neuman, and they begin a correspondence that provides him with advice and spiritual teachings. Literally Sgt. Kendel discovers and contemplates spiritual teachings with a gun in his hands, as he makes his way through the blood-soaked, cratered landscape of a war zone. When he returns to America, he finds that his “ordinary” life is not immune to death and suffering either, affirming the principles he’s been learning and the need for compassion. In the end, he comes to a heartening place of peace and clarity.
An unusual story, Walking the Tiger’s Path combines a
compelling, quick-reading, gritty military narrative with a voyage
of spiritual discovery centered on principles of eastern
religion. There are few, if any, stories like it in modern
Buddhist literature. At the same time, it fits into the realm of
classic war memoir, replete with the details of battle and the
modern soldier’s life, told in a voice by turns humane, humorous,
sarcastic, and thoughtful. The most natural audiences for his
book, therefore, would be anyone interested in spirituality and
eastern religion, as well as those interested in war stories and
American military history in Iraq.
Sgt. Kendel spent three years in the Army and twenty in the
National Guard. He has two master’s degrees, in anthropology and
in middle-eastern history, and currently teaches high school in
Jacksonville, Florida.

Gary Allen
Gary Allen lives in Boulder, Colorado, and works as the Education Director of the Ratna Prison Initiative. He worked for many years as a secretary to the poet Allen Ginsberg, &, while still a student, first began teaching in prisons in 1990 as a creative writing teacher. He's been involved with the Shambhala community for 30 years, and regularly directs Shambhala Training weekends, in Colorado and around the US. The author of two books of poetry--The Missionary Who Forgot His Name & Love Strolls Among Its Own Fires--he's currently four years into writing a biography of the Indian tantric mahasiddha Tilopa. Gary Allen has two degrees in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University. He lived in South Korea for five years teaching English, and currently works as the Education Director for the Ratna Peace Initiative, teaching meditation to prisoners. Gary Allen is the Author of Love Strolls Among Its Own Fires. A book full of romantic, erotic, and political poems with a touch of luminous fragments and lyric flourishes of Haiku, it catches slippery flashes of diurnal perception and phenomenal world detail with concision and subtle feeling. Mr. Allen creates a journal- like fabric of mind moment observation and ricochet commentary, trekking the map from high altitude Tibetan passes to low Texan prison towns. Charting the arc of a romance, he explores its quiet longing, daily intimacies, molten bliss and ragged sorrow. While his short lyrics turn an open ear to the silence after one thought ends before another begins. Welcome to the Ratna Peace Initiative..... We offer peace of mind to prison inmates through mindfulness meditation and other mindfulness practices and training. We teach these social educational skills as tools for our family of participants to experience improved quality of life. Ratna Peace initiative has a mission statement and it reads as such..... Our Mission: We are dedicated to cultivating the fundamental sanity and dignity in individuals and in society at large. Through generosity, we foster environments that encourage humanity, dignity, compassion, and wisdom.

Parker Francis A.K.A. Vic DiGenti
"Matanzas Bay," the first in what the author promises will be a series, introduces Quint Mitchell, a private investigator haunted by demons from his past forced to battle modern bad guys to save a friend. The novel opens in an archeological dig in St. Augustine (the real star of the show), where Mitchell and his buddy, the city archeologist, uncover the freshly buried body of the vice mayor. The complicated story line bounces all over the Ancient City, highlighting its attractions as well as exposing some not-so-nice history. Francis, who is not afraid to explore tough social issues in his many subplots, keeps you guessing until the very end. The night spent in the Alligator Farm will leave scars on your psyche (and may hurt attendance). Parker Francis is the pen name of Victor DiGenti, well-known Jacksonville Beach author ("Windrusher" feline fantasy series), writing instructor and retired public broadcasting executive - for years he was the puppet master of the very successful Jacksonville Jazz Festival. DiGenti, now a regional director of the Florida Writers Association, won awards with "Matanzas Bay" when it was an unpublished manuscript. He self-published it this spring, first as an ebook, then later in the more conventional format, a technique that is becoming more common. Linda West
A Special Delivery Message From Our Angels – Are We Listening?Pinetop, Arizona – Psychic medium Linda West has a mission. That mission is to deliver a special message from the angels. West, formally trained by Doreen Virtue, has a new book out that brings forth that special message in a very poignant and unique way. “I speak ‘Angel,’” West says matter of factly. Her book, 8 Keys – A Special Delivery Message From The Angels, speaks to all, even though West comes from a primarily Christian background. “This message from our angels cuts across all religious boundaries,” says West. “Despite all the hype we’ve been given lately, you can have the life of your dreams, and this is one of the things the angels tell us exactly how to accomplish here.” Throughout the book, West intersperses her messages from angels and the eight specific keys they bring forth to help people overcome obstacles, with meditations, anecdotes from her life, and stories from her physically and sexually abusive childhood. It’s a courageous leap that makes the angelic messages all that much more engaging, intertwined, and definitely applicable to everyone in these challenging times. The birth of the “8 Keys” began in 2006 when the angels asked Linda to present them in a series of unrehearsed lectures to the fellowship of the Unity Church in the White Mountains of Arizona. Word of these special presentations soon spread like wildfire on the mountain, and they became quite popular and well attended. Here Linda was approached by free-lance writer Karen Miller Gibbs who offered to help Linda make her presentations and special messages from the angels into a book, which is now available for the benefit of all. You can peek inside the book and read the first few chapters here: About Linda West: Linda West, M.A., psychic medium, author, motivational speaker. Ms. West holds a Masters Degree in metaphysics and is the author of the book 8 Keys: A Special Delivery Message from the Angels. She is also the host of the radio program “Empowered Life with Linda West,” which airs on Thursdays at 11:00 A.M. Pacific time on BlogTalk Radio. Ms. West is also an Angel Therapy® practitioner, personally certified by Doreen Virtue, a Theta Healer®, and a Quantum Biofeedback® technician.
